Postdoctoral Fellow - AI-based medcial imaging analysis and Mixed reality in simulation medicine

The Laboratory of Multi-modal Intelligent (miX-Lab) in the Research Center for Medical Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgical Devices of the Institute of Biomedical and Health Engineering at Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences is searching for a postdoctoral scholar in AI for medcial imaging analysis and mixed reality in simulation medicine. The miX Lab is led by Dr. Wenjian Qin, who is also affiliated with the College of Biomedical Engineering at Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology. The Qin Group focuses on cutting‐edge research at interdisciplinary of computer science, medical physics, and biomedical science, developing and applying computational methods to biomedical optical imaging and multi-modality of medical data analysis for precision tumor diagnosis and therapy. The lab develops novel methods in computing optical imaging, image computing and analysis, computing visualization, and AI, including computing reconstruction, unsupervised generative network, multi-modal fusion, and multi-task learning, weak supervision, mixed reality, and decision theory to tackle the challenges of leveraging multi-modal medical data. Our exciting work is bridging the field of biomedical engineering domains with multidisciplinary collaborations with top scientists at the Chinese Academy of Sciences as well as with other institutions internationally.

The miX-Lab provides a unique multidisciplinary environment for conducting innovative AI-based cancer research with a strong record of scholarly publication and clinical translation. Recent main research topics in the laboratory include: (1) automated image segmentation using weakly supervised methods of processing radiographic using deep learning methods; (2) developing methods of analyzing digital pathology to diagnose and predict clinical outcomes, (3) creating multi-modal deep learning models integrating genomics data to discover phenotypes of the tumor, (4) developing computing reconstruction methods for digital holographic microscopy, digital pathology and endoscopy, and (5) developing and implementing algorithms for mixed reality visualization for surgery navigation and medical education.

The postdoctoral scholar will be working on two core research topics: (1) develop weakly supervised AI methods for analyzing and extracting information from digital pathology; (2) develop mixed reality models for simulation medicine. The scholar will deploy and evaluate these methods as clinical applications to transform medical care.

Requirements:

  • Post-graduate degree (PhD completed or near completion) in biomedical data science, computer science, engineering, statistics, AR/VR/MR, or a related field
  • Experience in machine learning and AI, particularly in computer vision and image analysis
  • Strong record of distinguished scholarly achievement
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills with fluency in spoken and written English
